Support-Manikyama

Description

Ch. Manikyamma, a 45-year-old widow, is affected by HIV, unfortunately. She is now taking anti-retroviral medicines from a government hospital. But due to her condition, she is unable to work. Also, to cope with the medicine’s effects and disease symptoms, she needs good nutrition and supplements. She needs your support for her medical needs and basic monthly needs. Your monthly giving can help her take care of her basic needs and give her hope to live again.

Issue:

Living with HIV can be a challenging journey, engulfed by physical, emotional, and social complexities. However, with the right support and understanding, individuals affected by HIV can lead fulfilling lives and thrive in society. By providing comprehensive assistance and fostering a supportive environment, we can significantly enhance the wellbeing of people living with HIV. The first and most significant challenge faced by people living with HIV is the persistent social stigma surrounding the virus. By offering support and understanding, we can help break down these barriers and promote inclusivity. Educating communities about HIV transmission, prevention, and treatment can dispel myths and misconceptions, leading to greater acceptance and reduced discrimination. This shift in societal perception can significantly improve the mental and emotional wellbeing of those living with HIV. The second challenge for them is access to quality healthcare for managing HIV effectively. By advocating for comprehensive healthcare services, including regular check-ups, antiretroviral therapy (ART), and necessary dietary support, we can ensure that individuals affected by HIV receive the care they need. Additionally, providing information on local healthcare facilities, support groups, and counselling services can empower individuals to take control of their health and make informed decisions about their well-being.

Action?

As rightly said by Gareth Thomas, “This journey of education and breaking stigma around HIV is something that will have a legacy everlasting.” Good Samaritans India has taken a very good initiative to support the basic needs of HIV patients and to provide nutritious supplements. They also help them with their monthly needs. Accepting them and supporting them is the best treatment one can give for HIV patients’ overall wellbeing because they already have feelings of fear, isolation, and depression.

Impact?

Our dear Princess Diana said that “HIV does not make people dangerous to know, so you can shake their hands and give them a hug; heaven knows they need it.” Supporting an HIV patient means supporting their entire community. You are not just giving them help; you are giving them hope. You are restoring their faith in humanity. You are empowering an individual’s life. You are increasing their self-worth because social support plays a vital role in the wellbeing of HIV-affected individuals. Let us work together and help all HIV patients create an inclusive and compassionate society that uplifts and supports them.
